NPA President Manages Warehouse Trip Generation Study, Addresses Industry Group – February 2011
NPA served as the project manager for a successfully concluded trip generation study involving Inland Empire warehouse and distribution centers of 500,000 square feet and over. These “high-cube” warehouses are believed to generate less truck and auto traffic than indicated by previously derived trip generation factors for warehousing. The study was sponsored by the Inland Empire Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), also known as the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. Traffic counts were managed and analyzed by traffic engineers Kunzman Associates, Inc. The study was reviewed by a Technical Advisory Group with members from academia and local government. The results confirmed that trip generation rates for high-cube facilities are indeed lower than previously published rates. The results were presented to about 75 industry representatives at an event on February 22 jointly sponsored by NAIOP and developer Highland Fairview at their new Skechers facility in Moreno Valley. NPA President Nancy Pfeffer was one of the featured speakers and discussed the study design and outcomes. Study results have been submitted to the Institute of Transportation Engineers for inclusion in future editions of the Trip Generation manual. |
